PatchWalk Support

Help, gems FAQs, and a quick way to contact support.

Quick help

How PatchWalk works (30 seconds)

Pick a color and a layout, fill the grid with photos matching that color, then share your finished collage.

Gems at a glance

You start with 5 gems. Earn more by completing quests, then spend them on emoji rerolls, timer extensions, or single-use Plus setup unlocks.

Before you contact support

  • Restart the app and try again.
  • Check camera permission in your phone settings.
  • If it’s a group quest issue, double-check the 5-character code.

Purchase help (PatchWalk Plus)

PatchWalk Plus is a one-time purchase that unlocks features like high-resolution export, more layouts, expanded color palette, group quest hosting, time limits, configurable labels, and the Color Splash filter. Selected setup-only Plus options can also be unlocked for one quest with gems.

  • If you purchased Plus, and it’s not active, try reopening the app and checking your connection.
  • Use “Restore Purchase” for a previous purchase (it’s on the same page as the “Get Plus Version” button).
  • For refund requests, Apple or Google handles billing and refunds through their respective support flows.

FAQ

Highlights, shadows, and Color Splash filters are not available on some devices.

If you’re using an older Android device, some advanced filters may be disabled to maintain stability and performance. Note that the Color Splash filter also requires the PatchWalk Plus version.

Technical note: this mainly affects 32‑bit ARM devices (armeabi‑v7a). ARM64 (arm64‑v8a) is fully supported.
Why is the Color Splash filter not available for black, white, and grey?

The Color Splash filter is not available for black, white, and grey colors because these are achromatic colors (without hue). Since they lack a specific color to "splash" or highlight, they cannot be effectively desaturated against a background.

How does the Color Splash filter work?

Color Splash desaturates everything in your photo except your target color. You can use the slider in the editor to adjust the precision of the color detection to make it perfect. Note that the Color Splash filter requires the PatchWalk Plus version.

What is Color Streak mode?

Color Streak is a color hunt paced one photo per day. You set it up by choosing a layout and a color, and a 24-hour timer starts when the streak begins.

  • Each day you fill exactly one cell with a matching photo.
  • The day's photo stays fully editable (you can even replace it) until the next day unlocks; after that you can still tweak its filters and composition, but the photo itself is locked.
  • Miss a day and the streak breaks. Tap an empty cell to spend gems and restore it (the timer restarts), or start a new streak.
  • Completing a streak rewards gems — the longer the streak, the bigger the reward.
  • A streak runs alongside your regular quests. Open it any time from the Streak menu item and use Back on the grid to return to whatever you were doing.
How do gems work?

Gems are PatchWalk’s in-app currency. You start with 5 gems, and you can tap the gem counter in the app header to see your current balance, rewards, and cooldown timers.

  • Complete a quest: earn 1 gem once per day.
  • Complete a Color Streak: earn gems on completion — the longer the streak, the bigger the reward.
  • Free version: watch a rewarded ad for 1 gem, up to 3 times per day and not more than once per hour.
  • PatchWalk Plus: claim 1 gem once per day.
What can I spend gems on?

Gems can be used in a few different ways:

  • Emoji rerolls: reroll a single emoji during an active quest for 1 gem.
  • Timer extensions: extend an active timed quest for 1 gem.
  • Streak restores: restore a missed Color Streak (the cost grows with the streak size).
  • Single-use Plus unlocks: unlock one premium setup option for the current quest for 5 gems per feature.

In Emoji Hunt setup, the first full-set reroll is free. Later rerolls cost 1 gem each. In group summaries, you only get that one free reroll.

Why can’t I use some gem actions in group quests, and when are gems charged?

To keep group quests fair for everyone, timer extensions and in-quest emoji rerolls are disabled in group mode.

Single-use Plus unlocks are chosen during setup, but the gems are not deducted immediately. If you start the quest, all selected unlocks are charged together at that point. Each unlock applies to that quest only.

Where are my photos stored? Are they uploaded?

Photos and quests are stored locally on your device. PatchWalk does not require an account, and your photos are not uploaded to our servers.

I uninstalled the app (or switched phones). Can I recover my quests?

Uninstalling the app removes PatchWalk’s local data from that device. If you want to keep results, export/share your collages before uninstalling.

The camera won't open / I get a black screen.

Please confirm PatchWalk has camera permission:

  • iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera → enable PatchWalk
  • Android: Settings → Apps → PatchWalk → Permissions → allow Camera
My invite code doesn't work.

If you're joining a group quest, each participant should use a unique code provided by the host. Make sure the code is exactly 5 characters.

I see "Code Expired" when opening an invite link.

Invite codes are time-limited and valid for approximately one hour after they are created. If you open an invite link more than an hour or two after it was shared, the code will no longer be accepted and you'll see the Code Expired message.

Two people got the same color in a group quest.

This can happen if the same invite code is shared with more than one person. Each participant should receive a unique code.

Do my friends need PatchWalk Plus to join my group quest?

No! You only need PatchWalk Plus to host a group quest. Others can join using the invite codes you share, even if they are using the free version of the app.

Why can't I share my collage, and what happens if the timer expires?

Sharing becomes available after the grid is complete (all required photos are taken). If you enabled a time limit and time expires before you finish, the grid locks and the quest fails, meaning you will not be able to finish or share your collage.

Why are some colors not available in my group quest?

Some colors are excluded from randomization to ensure balanced and fair conditions for all participants. For example, it might be significantly more difficult to find objects of specific colors like cyan compared to more common colors like red.

Can I rearrange or replace photos in the grid?

Yes! You can move photos between cells by holding down on a photo and dragging it to another cell. The photos will swap positions.

If you want to replace a photo entirely, just tap it again to take a new one or pick another from your gallery.

How can I move, rotate, or zoom a photo within its cell?

While editing you can adjust each photo within its cell: use pinch to resize or rotate, and drag to move the image to get the perfect framing.

Why is my export resolution limited?

The free version may limit export size. PatchWalk Plus unlocks high-resolution export.

What is History, and where can I find my past quests?

Quests are saved automatically to your device. You can view, share, or delete your past collages anytime by navigating to the History page from the main menu.

Tips for the best scavenger hunt experience
  • Look for objects that strongly represent your target color to make the collage pop.
  • Good lighting makes a big difference! Try to take photos in well-lit areas.
  • Try different grid sizes to keep your walks fresh and challenging.
Can I configure header and footer labels?

Yes! In the PatchWalk Plus version, you can edit or turn off the header and footer labels in the app settings. Please note that turning them off may slightly affect the aspect ratio of the resulting images.

How do I report a bug effectively?

Please include:

  • What you did (steps)
  • What you expected vs. what happened
  • Device model, OS version, and PatchWalk app version
